The reason behind the iPhone 14 Pro Max price hike is the leaked details of camera

Apart from the iPhone 14 Pro's main camera sensor, Apple is expected to upgrade the ultra-high-resolution camera for the Pro models, advises renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this time offering exact specifications.

We've heard from other sources that the ultra-high-resolution cameras in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are getting improved too, but we didn't know in what way – sensor size, pixel size, or number of pixels.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max Ultra HD Camera Specifications

Instead of a super-fast 12MP camera sensor with a small 1 micron, Apple will equip the 14 Pro models with a sensor that has 40% larger pixels, and will therefore be able to collect more photons in the same low-light scenario than its predecessors iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

Besides quadrupling the camera resolution on the iPhone 14 Pro's main cameras and 14 Pro Max to 48 megapixels, and potentially being able to offer 8K video capture capabilities that require at least a 32-megapixel sensor size, Apple will mark Pro models differently.

High component costs cause iPhone 14 Pro to rise in price.

Ming-Chi Kuo listed component vendors who have won Apple's ultra-high-resolution camera upgrade contracts — Sony for the sensor, Minebea and Largan for the audio coil screen, and LG for the actual camera module packaging — but warned that they will charge much more this year.

Besides the more expensive method of the 48MP main camera sensor, Apple will have to get rid of 70% more of Sony's new superfast camera sensor, 45% for Largan and Minebea audio coil screens, and 40% more for LG camera packaging, boosting the camera's overall price setting significantly.

This significant increase in spare parts prices across the supply chain of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max camera may explain why Apple chose to increase an additional $100 for the iPhone 14 Pro models.

However, they do have Zoom Periscope lenses, so it remains to be seen whether iPhone enthusiasts are willing to pay higher prices when the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts shipping on September 16 or so.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will see other upgrades that their lesser spec siblings will not have, such as a new A16 processor and a better screen-to-body ratio thanks to radical changes in the frontal design on account for the punched screen concept adopted by Apple.
