Discover more than 170 malicious apps on Google Play has reached hundreds of millions of phones

Despite all of Google's security efforts to keep its app store safe, it is packed with malicious apps and, worse yet, reaches a large segment of users before they are detected and removed.

A security researcher from ESET revealed that 172 malicious apps on Google Play have been downloaded on more than 335 million phones. The malicious purposes of these applications vary from sending annoying ads to paid subscription services, displaying annoying hidden ads, sending expensive SMS messages, spying on bank accounts and stealing credit cards.

Although the large number of downloads may not directly suggest how bad the situation is because it does not detect the rate of use and activity, but the arrival of malicious applications to hundreds of millions of phones before identifying them through the security and protection mechanisms in Google Play, a big problem.

Currently these applications have been dealt with after reporting to Google and delete most if not all of them.

In July, the same security researcher revealed the results of a study that showed 205 malicious applications downloaded 32 million times.

It seems that the series is long and we will not get a good relative safety in the applications downloaded from Google Play, which forces us to be cautious before clicking the install button.
